The Tioga County Jail is a direct supervision, maximum security correctional facility, authorized to house 104 inmates. The facility operates 24/7 and conforms to the New York State Commission of Corrections Minimum Standards and other applicable laws. The facility houses both male and female inmates, ages 16 and older. The facility also houses inmates from other county jails within New York State, State Parole violators and Federal Inmates for the U.S. Marshal’s Service. The Division has received and currently maintains accreditation through the Joint Accreditation Committee of the New York State Commission of Corrections and the New York State Sheriff’s Institute. Correction Officers are hired in accordance with the NYS Civil Service Law and are New York State Certified Peace Officers |

The following opportunities are offered to inmates. Most programs are voluntary and are offered to help the inmate improve themselves in an effort to reduce recidivism. A number of these programs are offered by, and in cooperation with, a variety of community-oriented organizations.
